Abstract:

Protective steel doors are widely used in buildings due to their high resistance against the impact loads. However, its heavy weight has been always considered as a major drawback for these doors. In this paper, a new optimized stiffened impact-Protective steel door incorporating sandwich panel with aluminum foam core (OSSA) is examined. This door consists of two face sheets, main and secondary stiffeners, and aluminum foam as the inner core. In order to optimize the door, at first the rigidity and weight functions of the stiffened steel door were extracted. Then an optimal door weighing 42% less than the primary door was obtained. Due to the high energy absorption capacity of the combined foam core and stiffened steel door structure, the use of aluminum foam core in the optimized steel door was proposed. By doing numerical analysis, and depending on the thickness of the face sheet of OSSA, 20 to 32% reduction in the maximum displacement was observed. The results also showed that, with 67% increase in the peak overpressure, OSSA has kept almost the same maximum displacement as that of the steel door without an aluminum foam. In other words, by using aluminum foam core in the optimized stiffened door, the door will resist 67% more impact load.

Abstract:

Alzheimer is a slow, progressive neurodegenerative disorder that is known as the most common cause of dementia in the elderly. Some researchers have shown that the decrease of blood flowto the brainmay act as amechanism of Alzheimer etiology. On the other hand, the thalassemia could reduce the risk of arterial hypertension due to hematocrit and erythrocyte aggregation. However, Thalassemia probably has Protective effect against Alzheimer, Hypertension.

Abstract:

Introduction: Cardiac dysfunctions have been well known in patients with Major thalassemia. Some studies have focused on differences in blood pressure and heart rate between these patients and normal population, while this view has not been proven in other studies. Given the importance of hemodynamic factors in the health of these individuals, we intend to test the hypothesis as to whether or not hemodynamic factors of these patients differ from normal subjects. Methods: Patients were selected from among the thalassemic patients referred to a blood clinic of one of the third-level hospitals in Tehran. Finally, 50 patients and 50 normal subjects were studied in two groups. All subjects have been assessed using Holter monitoring. Mean average systolic blood pressure and heart rate of subjects were recorded for a period of 24 hours. In addition, demographic data on the subjects, and some laboratory tests (such as serum lipid profile and glucose levels of the patients) were also determined and compared between the two groups. Results: 100 people were evaluated in two groups, including 50 patients with thalassemia major and 50 normal subjects, matched by age and gender. The mean age of the subjects was 16.3 ± 6.7 years, and there is no significant difference in mean age of both groups.23 female patients (46%) were in the case group, and 21 female patients (42%) were in the healthy group, the ratio for which there is no statistically significant difference between the two groups (P>0. 05). The average level of serum glucose, lipid profiles, as well as none of the hemodynamic factors had no statistically significant difference in the two groups. Only the mean systolic blood pressure was significantly lower in male patients than among men without the disease.Discussion: Despite the lack of difference in blood pressure between the case group and others, it seems that gender could plays a Protective role against cardiovascular diseases in men with thalassemia major.

Abstract:

Nowadays, the fundamental role of having a purpose for life in physical and mental health has been confirmed. According to victor frankl, presence of a purpose in life gives life a meaning and increases resilience against pains and traumas. The importance of the purpose in life construct reveals the need for a reliable and valid tool to measure it. Crumbaugh and Maholick's purpose in life questionnaire is the first and one of the most applied tools for the assessment of life's purposefulness. The aim of this research is to determine the factor structure of purpose in life questionnaire. The questionnaire was administered on 206 students who were selected through random stratified sampling at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad. Exploratory factor analysis showed that there are two factors "comprehension" and "purpose" and this finding were confirmed by confirmatory factor analysis. Altogether results of this research showed factor validity of the purpose in life questionnaire with a two factor pattern

Abstract:

Cancer causes about 13% of human deaths and has not yet been properly treated. Conventional cancer treatment methods such as surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy have many side effects and in some cases have no effect on cancer treatment, so creating appropriate and targeted therapies can revolutionize cancer treatment. New methods include gene therapy and using immunotoxins, which can act up to a high percentage. This study aimed to investigate the effect of modified PA protein that binds only to cancer cells along with lethal factor (LF) on cancer cells. In this regard, recombinant mPA and LF proteins were isolated from recombinant Bacillus subtilis and after examining the presence of protein bands and their concentrations using SDS-PAGE and Bradford methods, respectively, the combined effect of different concentrations of these proteins on lung cancer cells, Breast, prostate and pancreas were examined by MTT method. The results showed that 75 ng of recombinant LF protein and 50 ng of recombinant mPA protein had the greatest effect on cancer cell death and caused the death of more than 98% of the studied cancer cells. With these results, it is hoped that a new dimension can be added to cancer treatment by producing targeted toxins such as mPA and LF.
